The Need

Filmmaker Phil Evans was producing a series of short skateboarding documentaries supported by Levi’s and Phil Evans and was in need of a logo. A web solution was needed to launch the videos and sell products from the films.

The Inspiration

The project’s focus was analog media and hand drawn cartoons, so approaching the logo required pen and paper. Inspiration came from 8mm film camera branding and diagrams of light refraction.

The Execution

The logo itself is a representation of a lightbox, which was used by Mike O’Shea for all of the animations in the film. The typeface was hand drawn initially for just the logo, but after titles were needed for other short films I developed it into a usable typeface
